The historical regatta of the ancient Maritime Republics
The historical Regatta recalls the ancient splendor of the four Maritime Republics: Amalfi, Pisa, Genoa and Venice.
In June of each year, since 1956, it occurs in one of the four republics. The competition takes place over a distance of 2 km, in Amalfi and Genoa on the Tyrrhenian Sea, in Venice in the famous lagoon and in Pisa on the Arno river.
Each Republic has its distinctive features that distinguish the galleons and the uniforms of the crews. Amalfi is identified by the blue color and by the winged horse.
A special moment of the event is the spectacular historical parade, which precedes the actual competition. Numerous members of the four cities wear historical clothes and recall facts and characters linked to the ancient deeds of the Maritime Republics.
If you happen to be on the Amalfi Coast in the year in which the Historical Regatta takes place in Amalfi, it is certainly worth visiting Amalfi to experience this interesting experience. Otherwise, do not miss the visit of the Ancient Arsenals of the Republic located in Amalfi.
